Karnataka's capital: big gardens, a Tudor-style palace, old temples and a mild plateau climate.
FamousCityHeritageWildlife
Bengaluru sits at about 920 m on the Deccan Plateau, so it stays milder than most big Indian cities. It mixes large old gardens, palaces from the Mysore and Tipu Sultan eras, museums and a strong food and cafe scene. It suits first-time visitors, families and anyone using the city as a start point for Karnataka.

Safety
By day
A busy big city that is easy to get around. Traffic is heaviest from about 8 to 10 am and 6 to 8 pm, so plan sightseeing around those hours.
At night
Central areas stay active in the evening and pubs close by 1 am. Use app cabs or prepaid transport late at night.
Solo women
Using the metro and app cabs and staying in central, well-reviewed hotels is the sensible approach.
Roads
Roads are congested, and journeys to the airport can take 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic. Allow extra time in the monsoon.

Practical
Mobile network
All the main networks (Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL) work in town.

Fuel

Medical
Hospitals are easy to find across the city. In an emergency dial 112, or 108 for an ambulance in most states. Bengaluru is described by the district administration as a leading medical hub.
The main sights are flat gardens, museums and palaces, and the mild climate helps. Avoid peak-hour road travel.
Children
Good for children: the Visvesvaraya museum is hands-on, and Bannerghatta has a zoo, butterfly park and safari. Lalbagh and Cubbon Park have open space.
Unless a sight is described as accessible, assume it is not step-free.
Culture and responsible travel
Photography inside Bangalore Palace is restricted and needs a paid token collected at entry.
Do not touch paintings or objects inside the palaces and museums, and do not litter.
The Bull Temple is an active place of worship; dress modestly and follow temple customs.
Kannada is the local language, and Hindi is less widely spoken in the older neighbourhoods.
Karnataka Rajyotsava on 1 November and the Bengaluru Karaga festival are major local celebrations.
