Lohaghat is a small town among pine and oak forest at about 1,706 m, and Abbott Mount, 7 to 8 km away, is a colonial-era hamlet of 13 cottages with views of the Himalaya. It suits people who want walks, quiet and a few old sites rather than a busy resort. The Mayawati ashram, a hill fort and the Nepal border confluence at Pancheshwar are all day trips.
