3 days in Gangtok

Town monasteries and the ropeway, a day at Tsomgo Lake, then Rumtek and a sunrise viewpoint.

Day 1

  • Arrive from Siliguri and check in near MG Marg.
  • Hand ID and photos to a registered agency for the Tsomgo Lake permit.
  • Visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and Do Drul Chorten.
  • Ride the Gangtok Ropeway from Deorali.
  • Walk and eat on MG Marg in the evening.

Day 2

  • Leave early in an authorised vehicle for Tsomgo Lake.
  • Spend time at the lake; yak rides and food stalls are available.
  • Return to Gangtok by mid-afternoon.
  • Rest and have dinner on MG Marg.

Day 3

  • Go to Tashi View Point for sunrise over Kanchenjunga.
  • Stop at Enchey Monastery on the way back.
  • Drive to Rumtek Monastery and walk up from the drop point.
  • Return to Gangtok, or continue down towards Siliguri.
